On the night of December 22^nd and 23^rd, a murti (idol) of Prabhu Shri Rama was placed under the central dome of the mosque. A First Information Report (FIR) was filed and on 29^th December 1949 an attachment order was passed by the Additional City Magistrate, Faizabad-cum-Ayodhya. Priya Datt Ram, the Chairman of the Municipal Board of Faizabad was appointed as the receiver.
